Tucker Carlson and Harold Ford Jr.

This was a response to a columnist:

Harold Ford Jr. claims he is pro-life (and claimed on Hannity & Colmes that he always has been despite evidence to the contrary) on the October 30th "Tucker" show interview, which is seemingly false as he ran originally as someone who was pro-choice but politically wise in Conservative Tennessee. Tucker Carlson presses him a little bit but never asks specifics like would Ford being in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade, was Ford in favor of appointing judges who would overturn Roe v. Wade, was he supportive of judges like Scalia, why has Ford previously voted against the Ban on partial-birth abortions? Ford then switches the topic and states, “if Republicans believe so firmly in outlawing abortions, Tucker, how come your party hasn‘t offered legislation in the Congress or the Senate to outlaw abortions?” Carlson should have responded that Republicans have offered legislation banning partial birth abortion, which even though the majority of Americans supported it, most Democrats opposed and was overturned by a judge (for good measure he could have said something about judicial activism here and why it is so important to have Republican Senators making Supreme Court appointments). Furthermore, unlike Democrats who classify pro-lifers as heretics, Republicans have representatives with a variety of views on the matter (I happen to be pro-choice) and the majority Republican view has never been to outlaw abortion but to have the decision decided at the state level (Which while it is something I personally disagree with, would have been a compelling argument on the show and is in keeping with Mr. Carlson’s positions). Instead Carlson says the following:CARLSON: First of all—wait, wait, wait. First of all, it‘s not my party. And the answer is they don‘t believe their own rhetoric. That‘s the answer, as you well know.http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15498236/So Carlson does the following: let’s Ford off the hook and allows him to change the subject, Carlson seems to now deny that he is a Republican after claiming for so many years not only was he a Republican but that he was a Conservative Republican, and then acknowledges that Republicans are hypocrites on the matter. Nice job Tucker. While Tucker Carlson appears to be an affable guy, he is a poor debater and at this point he seems to have abandoned the Republican Party. Harold Ford Jr. effectively represented himself as a pro-lifer when that is misleading given his past voting record and his likely future voting record. Just on a side note, has the MSNBC become the anti-Bush network? Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann are both Democrats with the latter being the most partisan hack in cable news and the former being vehemently anti the Iraq War as such fairly anti President Bush. Tucker Carlson and Joe Scarborough, while both presumably still registered Republicans have become amongst the harshest Republican critics of the administration and the Congress.
